I think I have identified a problem with computer resources - it's not the apps that are open, necessarily, but the bloody adverts on browser pages.
WereCorgi
WoWHead is particularly bad for this, since they allow stupid adverts that are full-audio video clips; not only do they suck resources up, but are disruptive and interruptive.

Flashblock. It's all the Flash ads.
WereCorgi
I get Shockwave crashes all the time.
WereCorgi
Thing is, the dragon game depends on it.
Otenth
most adblocking or flashblocking addons can have exceptions for entire domain names or specific pages.
WereCorgi
I'll have a look, thank you.

NoScript is what I use and allow whitelist sites as I go. I don't feel great about it, because I'm all about paying the artist. I do feel great about my PC not freezing up trying to load a page.
Foggy
I love wowhead and they really try to keep the awful ads squashed, but since they use a service for them stuff creeps in all the time that can screw you up while playing.
Foggy
I have an adblocker, and for thost places I use a lot like wowhead I just subscribe. Is very cheap and helps keep them in business.
WereCorgi
Foggy
: Unfortunately, subscribing costs money.
Ereh
adblock plus and flashblock are donationware
Ereh
also if you're on Firefox you can set permissions checks on plugins like flash, so I always prevent flash from running
WereCorgi
Ereh
: I only use Firefox intermittently; mostly Chrome at this point.

There are some good extensions for chrome. Ghostery is a good one, you can block certain domains (including the source domains of certain advertisers). Privacy Badger is another one similar to Ghostery,
Das Fergand
though it's a but more automated in his it works, and is more based on blocking domains from watching you between websites.
