90% of the way I treated his introduction into the game came from one tag. Or well, two tags.

On the test drive, Ai said something like "I'll be okay because senpai is here" while stepping closer to Rin.

And Rin stepped away and got all "ugh" at him.

WHICH TURNED INTO THIS WHOLE THING OF AI THINKING RIN WOULDN'T HELP HIM WITH THE SEX STUFF XP

Also Ai got a lot of the "you have no control in this situation" right away, from Rin saying things like that you just do things with whoever wherever when it happens

And the first net post he saw was high!Masaki talking about needing drugs to make her pain go away, and how everyone would need that because of something that just happened.

That was before he even made his own first post, and I think was the first thing I had him respond to.

It was interesting for me because it meant a) he believed that if he wanted to choose his first experiences, he had to get on it and be proactive

he didn't feel like he had a partner he could trust, so he was in need of finding some.

And while at the time I had Mikado who had also sort of dived right in, they were for very different reasons (ie Mikado had people he felt he had to protect in Aoba and Masaomi)

Ai didn't need to protect or take care of anyone else, but he didn't feel at all like he had anyone to do that for him.

And he got a lot of YEAH SOMEONE IS GOING TO ASSAULT YOU talk right away as well.

So there was a lot of pressure on him to (if he wanted to have first experiences that were nice) get on having them.

It's interesting because he tries very hard not to delve into the politics of the place, overall.

He doesn't usually greet new people unless it's in a "you're lost, let me help you find where you're going" kind of way
The Fool
but on the rare occasions that he does, it gets rather icky first, like in that Apollo post recently, where he flat out said that this place made even him hurt someone.

It's really neat to look back on, because I feel like if one tag had gone differently, his intro to the game would have been entirely different.

Because if he'd realized Rin would help him - which Rin eventually did! - he would have been much less forward with tossing himself out on the network.

Though I think a lot of his sex attitudes would be different if it weren't for those first encounters too.

He did things with several different people before getting around to doing anal or vaginal, and

had like 10 sexual encounters before his first kiss even.

So he wound up with this really jumbled attitude toward things that's both casual and makes a big deal out of specific things.

It's so neat when you're like "These one or two small things informed my character's entire development in this game."
