Sorry?
boop
Heh. Saw that one before, a fairly long while back.
boop
Alas, it is so, Cloud. All things fade.
boop
(Not to come off as sardonic, but in honesty - if you're going to be a hero, have another profession ready. Better still, have another mission in life.)
boop
(...though yeah, that doesn't do anything about the old-and-feeble part. everyone heads there. the last Rocky movie was pretty much about that, as I recall.)
boop
(don't mind me if I end up speaking stupid or getting off topic, though - kinda tired at the moment and rambling. BD)
Kyt
No worries!
Kyt
I like that you can't tell if he's referring to himself or Aeris in the final panel
boop
I always assumed it was himself, in consistence with the narrative. On the other hand... it could readily apply to both him and Aeris, since he's old n' grey now and she never even got that.
boop
All the people connected to remembering him would be similarly junctioned to her.
boop
So if he's bored and lonely (and at the risk of redundancy - alone alone, presumably, from the way the comic's playing out), that suggests many of the people he knew are gone already.
boop
So yeah. If he were referring to her...they'd be in very similar boats, except she's worse off on account of being snuffed early.
boop
And considering that she played an equal role - arguably a bigger role - in literally saving the planet itself...
boop
An irony, that. The whole reason that the world and the people are even still going on and nobody remembers 'em.
boop
Your reward for saving life is watching it go on without you - without remembering or even acknowledging you. That's gotta sting, huh?
boop
And yet, so it goes. People have their own lives. You saved the world, they've got house payments to make. The flow continues.
boop
(I never looked up "sardonic" before now, only having a general idea of what it meant, but - having seen the definition, I daresay I fit the word. BD)
Kyt

Kyt
Or he understands that once he dies no one will remember her (or what she did)
boop
That brings up a thought. Marlene.
Kyt
Oh ho!
boop
I mean, considering she was fond of Cloud too, and was the youngest of all of them... even if he's a grayhair, she has to still be around if he is. If things proceeded normally.
boop
Assuming it's not durr on the author's part, the silent inference one gets from this is that something happened to take her outta the picture too...
boop
Kinduva thing, really. She'd be the one person to remember everyone. Of course she'd have her own life to live too, so Cloud could still be alone in that case...
boop
(OVERANALYSIS IS GO OHOHOHO.)
boop
Perhaps Denzel too if you wanna count expanded canon.
boop
But even then. Even then. The natural course of things is to end up forgotten. Everyone goes there. (I mean, unless you shift the world in a really, really noticeable way...)
boop
(And then the best you get is the occasional documentary. That's somethin', at least. More than ordinary everymen get.)
boop
Of course when your planet and your species go for the Big Sleep and they haven't managed the migrating-to-other-worlds thing, that wipes everything clean.
boop
(So hey, Shinra, how about that Space Program? Could be handy in the future!)
boop
And even the memory of you doesn't make you immortal. Remember or not, you're still gone. And before you get there, you become gray and feeble - the old hero without their sword.
boop
Not to sound cruel, but - after a certain degree of weakening borught on by age, in both mind and body, there comes a time when you're simply no longer good for anything.
boop
/brought
boop
'S way it's kinda important to do the doing that's important to oneself while the mortal frame's still willing to cooperate.
boop
King's Quest 2.5 had a line like that. "You go would go forth and slay the dragon yourself, but you no longer have the heart for such quests."
boop
/minus one go
boop
Yeah, I'm rambling. BD - The whole concept of aging is kinduva Thing for me, and something that honestly scares me. The death before death.
Kyt
Yeah, it really is rather spooky
