[RL/comp] FINALLY, the surface scan came up clean... after running it several times and catching and repairing a few of the errors each time. Ran it several times to confirm it caught nothing else.

stupid, stupid hard drives, augh.

SO, I am finally back on, on my desktop, where I can check plurk and load Dreamwidth and do all those fun things again.

Whew.

anyone care to fill me in on whatever I've missed in the meanwhile, as I try playing catch-up?

haha, yeah, it... well, I caught it while making my backup of its files. Claimed CRC errors, so it couldn't copy those files, and I just went "NOT AGAIN!" and surface-scanned until it was good again.

and then replaced the damaged files with files from the last backup I made.

....which was a while ago, and before a good few of the Windows Updates... but they seem to work.

if it does actually have a ton of errors, I'll just restore the comp from that prior point altogether, and re-update, make a new backup, etc

....and other things have made my brain NOPE right out of productive mode. sigh.
