[Asgard] Am I the only one who doesn't find Ginnungagap difficult to spell?
StormWolf
Yes.
StormWolf
@doggos
I FIND IT RIDIC HARD TO SPELL. cries about it.
StormWolf
I'll just say Greatgooglymoogly and be done with it.
Toss
Huh.
Toss
IT'S REALLY SIMPLE TO ME.
化けの花

Snowdrops ミ☆
I copy and paste it every time
Snowdrops ミ☆
But then again I can't spell words in my own language so /)_(\
Oathkeeper
It is not that hard for me. But then I am used to it from Dawn of the New World with Tales of Symphonia's sequel so. :lb
flying beastie
Copy and paste is my friend.
ELSA ❆
once I learned to pronounce it slowly I also learned to spell it

I still have trouble with 'Thor' sometimes.
Terri_New_Year
Ginnungagagap: Lady Gaga's new stage name.
StormWolf
lol
StormWolf
Check out that gap.
Toss
Yeah I was thinking if maybe it has to do with the fact that it is part of my country's history. It's a Nordic religion. So maybe I just have an easier time getting how it works SOMEHOW.
StormWolf
Probably...
Toss
Which is a whole other can of worms and very interesting.
Toss
Makes me wish I was a linguist.
(✿◉‿◉)🔪
I've never had trouble spelling it which apparently makes me the most mythology learned mod between the three of us.
Toss
Ahahahaha I AM NOT SURPRISED
Toss
If any of you could it'd be you.
Toss
But aw yeah.
(✿◉‿◉)🔪
I will take that as a compliment.
Toss
Good.

ꙮᐱ
No, it's spelled like it sounds, very easy.
⧔ мαgηυs ⧕
I can spell it, it's just long, so i copy/paste it.
ꙮᐱ
Say I, who studied Old Norse in school. Whoops.
sɴᴀᴘᴘʏ-sɴɪᴘs
I can say/spell it but I have no idea what it is
ȡ𝓲𝘴ą𝘴𝓽є𝓻
i just said it out loud a few times and now it's easy
ꙮᐱ
It's the void which existed before the universe was created!
sɴᴀᴘᴘʏ-sɴɪᴘs
ooo sonds interesting, gonna google his one
ꙮᐱ
It's a very cool mythological concept actually one of my favourite things about (what we have left of/have reconstructed of) Norse paganism.
ꙮᐱ
As for getting how it works, Toss, it probably follows the same rough orthographical rules as modern Swedish, by which particular phonemes (sound-units) are represented more or less consistently,
ꙮᐱ
with some wiggle room for sound change and allophony (perception of two different sounds as the same/not distinguishing between different sounds because they never cause a difference in meaning).
ꙮᐱ
So since Old Norse is an ancestor of your language you've got similar constructions in terms of orthographical representations of sound! Writing is of course arbitrary and spelling is made up but
ꙮᐱ
generally in such a way as to accurately represent sound unlike, for instance, in English, where we need more letters for all our vowels.
Toss
Knew I could count on you.

The only one, yes.
