Cotton knitters: does it get easier on the hands? LOVE the way it's knitting up, but after 1hr, my hands threw themselves up in self defense

SockBunny
Which cotton are you using?

CoggieTm
Nope

LuckyLindey
SockBunny
: it's Made in America worsted. I LOVE it. It's knitting up so pretty... I just couldn't knit on it for more than an hour.

SockBunny
You are a newer knitter, right? You may just need to build up to longer periods using it

LuckyLindey
SockBunny
: I've actually been knitting for a really long time. Just not cotton.

SockBunny
Oh gotcha. Well it is harder. Just pace yourself and alternate projects

LuckyLindey
SockBunny
: I was afraid of that.
I'll stick to an hour a day and hope my hands toughen up. Thanks for the advice!

I have to take breaks when knitting cotton. It tears my hands up.

lemonhalf
I use a size smaller needles and knit looser on them

lemonhalf
instead of pushing with your fingers so much make sure you are letting the tips of the needles do their job too!

found this too: Knitting with Cotton

lemonhalf
: good info, thanks! Hands are as good a new this morning, so I'm back to it. The yarn is really knitting up beautifully!

lemonhalf
good, i don't want to be responsible for wrecking your knitting life!
breaks are definitely key unless you are brutal.
