just a thought... could we please not lump squatters with the urban poor but legitimate land owners?

ang hirap kasi mag-generalize eh, lalo na sa Makati. Sure the neighborhood might be unsavory for such a very cosmopolitan city, pero hindi lahat ng shanty towns eh squatters na.

I know of a few people whose families who live in unsightly neighborhoods but they are not squatters. Nagkataon lang na they are not rich enough to renovate their homes.

These are the forgotten and easily dismissed barangays of Makati na hindi kilala ng mga non-Makati residents. Hindi lahat sa Makati ay mayayaman na taga exclusive villages and wealthy subdivisions.

ang nakaka-inis kasi minsan totoo yung "pinasunog yan" for various reasons. #1, kasi ampanget ng lugar lalo na kung in close proximity to premium spots. #2, honest-to-gods squatter area n mahirap i-relocate.

#3, rich people want to buy said unsightly albeit premium location but can't get rid or buy off legitimate owners. #4, tapos na election and the urban poor serve no other purpose until next election time.

in context of today's fire near Makati Med, I'm more inclined towards #3 and #4.

ganun din yung case in the neighborhood I grew up in. I would rank the barangay as lower-middle class to poor, but they own the land and the houses they live in. The paternal side of my family is an example.

#sensationalism to get higher viewership. Kaya nga halos di na ako naunuod ng local news. More often than not kasi parang tabloid reporting na yung delivery.

The area is part of the Napocor line, so residential structures, or any structure at that, are not meant to stand on it...

It used to be one of the city's botanical gardens, hence, we call it Botanical. San Lorenzo transferred jurisdiction to our brgy. years ago.
