[new merlin plurk]
snowbogan
"are you saying it's wrong to harbour a young magician?"

by the way here is an article about the finale I found particularly eviscerating
spooky queer
/sits too
snowbogan
/bookmarks for later
spooky queer
sob i'm on 5x08 I haven't seen the finale yet
snowbogan
god morgana
snowbogan
seeing her like this
snowbogan
so openly compassionate and loving and selfless and tender
no mortal blade
snowbogan
i love that morgana has that red cloak
snowbogan
passion that's what drives her
snowbogan
her heart is so open
snowbogan
and so easily bruised
snowbogan
...god i'm making morgana-jean parallels now
snowbogan
because that's what happened with the phoenix
snowbogan
the greatest love turning into the greatest hate, passion turned on its head
spooky queer
man I just want merlin to have the "btw I'm a wizard" conversation with her. it's been 5 seasons, man.
spooky queer
just tell her how you feel. i mean uh.
no mortal blade
for a price
: why did you link that oh my god
for a price
you're welcome
no mortal blade
you're cruel
for a price
yep
no mortal blade
and
snowbogan
I am going to need more of them
snowbogan
yes good
snowbogan
god merlin's first Horrible Decision
snowbogan
the first time he has to make a difficult heart-wrenching choice
no mortal blade
spooky queer
merlin bb .-.
for a price
which one is this THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL
snowbogan
he has to decide if he saved mordred or not
snowbogan
i think this is the first time this happens to him
spooky queer
ugh I just. something I want for him in rp is a better mentor who actually teaches him what to do in these situations.
for a price
ah yeah
snowbogan
welcome to your life, merlin
snowbogan
"those socks are very clean, of course i'm proud of them."
snowbogan
oh sir owen :c
for a price
just to build myself a small soapbox on the subject of Horrible Decisions
for a price
I am kinda resistant to the much-tumblr'd idea that 'none of this would have happened if Merlin hadn't fucked it all up' because 1) you can't know if something is a bad decision until its consequences play out
for a price
2) it's very easy to say as am omniscient viewer that 'if he hadn't done X then Y could not possibly have happened' - the audience doesn't and can't know that
for a price
3) he was getting terrible advice left right and centre
snowbogan
yeah like - even if I do think a decision was objectively Bad I think it's reasonable for him to not think so
snowbogan
often merlin is between a rock and a hard place/doesn't have all the facts/is bombarded by shitty perspectives
snowbogan
he's not perfect but things would be kind of boring if he were
for a price
and it's kind of strange to assume that Morgana would have necessarily just gone along with him when he was, effectively, loyal to Uther - or that Morgause would have just gone 'welp I guess I lost this battle'
snowbogan
i think waaay early on if merlin had worked told her he had magic and worked with her things could have turned out differently
snowbogan
but it's not like he could have predicted...all of this
snowbogan
and like - even though morgana has magic she's still in a position of privilege over him
snowbogan
i DO wish he'd told her but i understand why he didn't
for a price
Yeah. And (admittedly my S2 memories are fuzzy) he did do The Right Thing in introducing her to the druids, and she did tell him she wasn't afraid any more.
snowbogan
yeah, definitely
snowbogan
i mean it went horribly but that's not his fault
for a price
and this at a time when both Gaius and KG were telling him in no uncertain terms to step off
snowbogan
gaius, now, i can definitely blame.
snowbogan
i get his reasoning, i do
snowbogan
but christ
snowbogan
the fuck did he expect? just drugging her forever was going to work out?
snowbogan
never telling her the truth, never giving her a choice
snowbogan
taking her under his wing would have been a grave risk, i know
for a price
Though he had his reasons too. I think he was afraid of Uther, and afraid of having to put Uther in a position where he had to choose Morgana or (his vision of) Camelot and Morgana was...probably not gonna win.
snowbogan
well, i'd think he'd tell morgana to...
snowbogan
not tell uther
snowbogan
dang arthur throwing that gauntlet
snowbogan
that is a swoon moment for me
for a price
Well of course, but saying 'hey you've got magic and that's okay, just keep it on the down-low' might still represent an unacceptable risk compared to
for a price
'you've got magic, but if I can keep it suppressed then I never have to risk you getting caught'
snowbogan
He could at least have told her "hey, you have magic, I am going to supress it so you don't get caught"
snowbogan
so at least she'd know.
for a price
I don't think Morgana would have gone for that somehow 8|
snowbogan
baby morgana might have :|a
for a price
maybe :|a
for a price
But yeah, he made ultimately damaging decisions because he wanted to keep the peace and protect people, and Merlin ended up doing the same thing.
snowbogan
Yeah. I think - I resent it more because the show doesn't make it out to be a bad decision really.
for a price
That does kind of suck. :C I need to rewatch Series 2 though not just yet because imminent canon update and I don't want to have S2!Merlin too fresh in my mind.
snowbogan
Yeah, I don't mind morally ambiguous characters as long as they're PRESENTED as morally ambiguous. The show excuses Gaius too much imo.
snowbogan
/nods
no mortal blade
ngl I think my favorite feasible au about Merlin telling Morgana still results in Morgana going FUCK THIS I'M OUT
no mortal blade
and it would end up being much more bitter and personal much earlier
for a price
you're my favourite, marry me
snowbogan
...holy fuck merlin did you jut straight up try to burn the black knight to death
no mortal blade
because then she'd be an insider, so to speak, she'd be Merlin's confidant, but she'd still be watching Uther doing these terrible things and bb Morgana would not stand for it well
snowbogan
I do think Morgana would have taken a different path still, yeah
no mortal blade
I don't think things would wind up exactly the same at all but I do feel like her anger and bitterness would grow exponnentially
no mortal blade
it would be slower because she wouldn't be alone and she'd have a friend she could trust etc
no mortal blade
but I think it would snowball, because she'd be in Camelot longer
snowbogan
'Cause Merlin - he learns from Gaius to accept a LOT
snowbogan
but Morgana? No, she wouldn't.
no mortal blade
and she'd have to hide longer and be afraid longer and think her guardian would have her killed etc
no mortal blade
mmhm she's too headstrong
no mortal blade
I WOULD HAVE FOUND THIS VERY INTERESTING HONESTLY
no mortal blade
because it would have been less 'one year later, she is now evil, muahaha enjoy the smirks'
snowbogan
gosh yes
snowbogan
i'd have loved to see a gradual, natural progression
no mortal blade
it would have basically been watching Uther and Camelot unintentionally break her down and her reaching the point of no, I can't do this anymore
no mortal blade
which would probably culminate in her trying to kill/having uther killed, but
snowbogan
hell, she tried to do that in s1
no mortal blade
well yes but she wouldn't stop it or save him
for a price
yeah that would have been awesome :c and it would have given Morgana some much-needed personal agency instead of being made Morgause's weapon, essentially.
no mortal blade
yup :c
no mortal blade
cause then it would be her informed decision
no mortal blade
instead of morgause whispering in her ear
for a price
and then the XMFC comparisons would spiral out of control forever
no mortal blade
YYYYYYYUP
no mortal blade
though lol
no mortal blade
you say this as if they aren't already
snowbogan
i still want to make a Morgana Is Right shirt
for a price
yeah, naive I know
snowbogan
Morgana Was Right
no mortal blade
I'd buy it B*

for a price
oh yes, ari wins, the tree
snowbogan
WHEN I CAN USE PHOTOSHOP WITHOUT MY COMPUTER DYING
snowbogan
i will go to redbubble
snowbogan
and this will be a thing
snowbogan
because frankly even when Morgana is being ALL OUT EVIL i'm just sitting here going "girl has a point"
snowbogan
dude imagine if uther had died in this fight against the black knight
no mortal blade
everyone would die peacefully in their beds B(
no mortal blade
except Uther
no mortal blade
but no one cares B(
snowbogan
..aww uther tells merlin to look after arthur.
snowbogan
SEE UTHER APPROVES.
snowbogan
idk if this is good or bad.
snowbogan
honestly morgana and uther are similar in some ways too, they both have a Cause they are willing to do ruthless horrible things for
snowbogan
they can both love wholly and desperately
snowbogan
uther does care deeply about his people. when they aren't magic.
snowbogan
and when he does do awful horrible things he doesn't take any sadistic pleasure in it.
snowbogan
of course then all his moral ambiguity disappears and he's just evil.
snowbogan
"you mean more to me than anything i know. more than this entire kingdom and certainly more than my own life."
snowbogan
"i always thought that i was a big disappointment to you."
snowbogan
oh arthur :c
spooky queer
/sits here and sobs
spooky queer
(and yes i agree on those points about merlin's decisions)
snowbogan
merlin why are you telling the dragon this
spooky queer
but of course we have the same feels because we are actually twins
no mortal blade
...honestly Morgana becomes more Uther like than Uther did
snowbogan
don't tell morgana that
no mortal blade
she's just so much worse than him by the end of s4 alone I just quietly hate her as much as I love her
no mortal blade
yeah she hears it a few times and just makes the best face
no mortal blade
but then later she's like TEEHEE UTHER TAUGHT ME WELL
snowbogan
oh god s4 is going to kill me isn't it
no mortal blade
she is just snapped B(
snowbogan
MORGANA WHY
no mortal blade
if it doesn't
no mortal blade
s5 will
spooky queer
ugh the stuff with gwen and morgana and season 5 is just
spooky queer
/doesn't spoil but

s5 alternately gives me feelings and makes me angry
snowbogan
"it's very, you know. swordy."
no mortal blade
now I want to dick around with a slow burn au B( damn it B(
snowbogan
for a price
I could be convinced to collude in that
for a price
might marathon S2 this weekend once I've got 'Merlin 's all over the Barge' underway
no mortal blade
I would happily (?) join you poke at this
snowbogan
"isn't she the king's ward?" "not that you'd know it. she's the only person i know who isn't frightened of him."
no mortal blade
sobbing
no mortal blade
forever
no mortal blade
snowbogan

snowbogan
WILL
snowbogan
i knew it was coming
snowbogan
hell i knew it was coming the FIRST time
snowbogan
but ;_;
snowbogan
god i love how important merlin's mother is to him
snowbogan
how fundamental she is
snowbogan
to his personality, to who he is
snowbogan
you don't SEE mother/child relationships enough imo
for a price
particularly not in Merlin because everyone's mother is dead 8C
snowbogan
merlin you really are a comic book
snowbogan
arthur
snowbogan
what makes you think killing a unicorn is a good idea
for a price
repeated concussions
snowbogan
that explains a lot really
snowbogan
merlin did you just
snowbogan
are they going to eat the rat
snowbogan
awww morgana and gwen smuggling food out to people
snowbogan
yep merlin made rat stew
snowbogan
hell i love rats but i'd eat 'em if i was starving buck up boys
snowbogan
and now morgana

i bet she was just like
snowbogan
hmm could use some spices
snowbogan
guys you could fry the bugs first
