[VoiceActors] Saw a VA for a (admittedly niche) character i liked has "moved on" from that character, which is fair, though now I'm anxious if they're ever at a con i go to if it would be bad to ask for a signature for that character? Iunno.
Gem
they say nothing is wrong with the character and they even still like them, but they are tired of explaining why they don't include the character in their portfolio, which is entirely in their right.

there's just now this anxiety of "oh they're gonna be at X con and I'd like them to sign my physical copy of Y media but would that be upsetting since they 'moved on'?" and like... I unno... i don't want to upset folks, especially VAs I like
Gem
well... not especially, but you know what I mean
Gem
it just sucks when the thing you like is so niche that even the VAs seem to not wanna acknowledge it or deal with it. sigh....
TC
...i feel like this needs more context to the character to know whether or not it's okay

TC : should be safe to reveal: Lilac from Freedom Planet
TC
...oh huh
TC
That feels....strange
TC
but also I know Freedom Planet has a lot of Sonic fandom crossover despite how hard the creator has tried to move on from Lilac themselves originating as a Sonic OC, so maybe that might be part of it, in which case...understandable

TC : I know GalaxyTrail doesn't like FP being known as "the Sonic fan game" game, but in the VAs case, she says its because it was a role from 8+ years ago and very niche, usually only getting 2-3 folks asking about it at cons.
Gem
the recent thing she said today is that she's tired of having to explain that to people who are bothering her about including Lilac in her portfolio. it just came off more harshly about the character than I think she intended
TC
I think if someone actually asks cause they know then they might be fine, but if it's included in her portfolio and asked about it like someone doesn't know then it gets probably annoying comparitively.
TC
also hot take if you didn't want to be known as a Sonic inspired work then you probably shouldn't have made a game that has a lot of attributes Sonic fans actually want in their games compared to what was coming out at the time.
TC
you know...cause you were also a Sonic fan that wanted those things yourself, GalaxyTrail

imo i think it'd be fine to ask for a signature in this case. it's probably more a case of "i don't wanna have to keep repeatedly explaining who this character is" and so just chose to not put her on their portfolio. esp if they've done more well known roles since then. portfolio's are essentially resumes, and you don't list every single job on a resume :-P

coffee gremlin☕ : yea, that makes sense. it just came off strongly is all.
