TLDR: Elon Musk and his “DOGE” team, who are not official government employees(?), have been given access to data from the US Treasury, the Office of Personnel Management, and the US Agency for International Aid. No concrete information has been given on what they are doing with info, and officials who have tried to stop them have been fired or put on leave.
It is unclear as to what clearances, if any, Musk and his team has. Obviously, security clearance is abundantly important for anyone accessing this info; plus, Musk has clear business incentives to do nasty things with the data, since government contract money may be going to his competitors.
Script if needed: “Hi, I'm [name] from [state]. I'm calling to demand that Elon Musk and his team be immediately removed from all government business pending investigation and security clearance. Musk is neither elected nor a government employee;
"it's completely unreasonable for him to have access to data from the Treasury, the OPM, or the USAID. This a serious breach of security that should be rectified ASAP.”
BONUS!! there's also still time to call your reps and tell them not to vote for RFK Jr, Gabbard, and Patel! I'm not sure when exactly those votes are happening, but they haven't yet.
Adding to this that some members of Congress are part of a DOGE caucus (that was set up before the inauguration and before anyone knew exactly how wildly lawless Musk was going to immediately be) so if your Congressperson is on that caucus, demand that they leave it.
I was trying to find a full list earlier but haven't yet. There are some Dems in the caucus. (Which is enormously frustrating but seems like they were just delusionally thinking that there was going to be a good faith effort by GOP to increase efficiency, so I'm more angry at those Dems for being so gullible than anything.)
Here’s another anti-Elon script. I like this one because it offers a bunch of bullet point options for what you want your congresspersons to do including “sue his ass”
I plan on calling about the lack of security clearance but being involved with the caucus doesn't imply approval of Elon Musk, to my mind; it implies wanting to have some say in what he does.

It's not removing themselves from a committee, it's removing themselves from the caucus. (Committee and caucus are different. Committee is a formal structure, caucus is more like an informal voting block.)
Removing is largely symbolic, but, again, being in the caucus and using an acronym that Musk created comes across as an endorsement of Musk's actions. Not saying that removing themselves from the caucus is the only thing they should be doing, but basically the DOGE "brand" should be considered poison.
and this one describes himself as a "progressive capitalist" so yeah THAT'S A LOADED STATEMENT regardless of his actual policies (he's not in my district)
Also this plurk should probably maintain a single focus. Like, it's not mine, but this administration is 50 dumpster fires a week, and we should be conserving our mental energy
Just popping in to encourage/beg people to contact their congressional reps about this. Federal employees have been bombarded daily with after hour late night communications that basically amount to threats of "resign and accept this illegal and unauthorized order now because we can't guarantee your job in the future"
You can take a look at the initial email that looks like a phishing scam and some of the language that has been direct emailed to federal employees in the faq (the second question was word for word in an email federal employees received "clarifying" this illegal offer)
The federal government is the largest employer in the US. Federal employees are on the whole dedicated civil servants who deeply value integrity, service, and honesty. They are the lifeblood of this country and Elon's illegal takeover threatens their livelihoods and everyone who is served by them. Federal employees aren't afraid
Of audits, investigations, or radical transparency. What is terrifying is an unelected billionaire weaponizing those ideals to literally harvest personal and financial data for his own gain.
I've called two of my reps but both of their DC mailboxes were full (unsurprising), so I sent emails with the script and referenced "I tried to call your office on X date at X time but your voicemail box was full. Please respond."
AR here. My rep (Womack) and Sen Boozman both had courteous staffers at their DC offices. Sen Cotton's DC office and all four in-state offices, however, went straight to voicemail...
I called my rep and one of my senators. had to use email to contact the other senator cos the automated voice menu tree had choppy sound quality and I could barely understand what it was saying
the office staffer for Rep Kelly Morrison (MN-D, replaced Dean Philips for the district covering NW suburbs of Minneapolis) was very polite and expressed that Rep Morrison fully agrees about the Muskrat Dumpster Fire going on
is there a version of this site for state/local issues? I'm guessing those would be state-by-state ones (ie, a site just for California or Georgia, etc)
Yeah like I held a position that interfaced with PII for the federal government and it took a year to complete my full background investigation. That's not security clearance that was just the check to see if this person is legitimately trustworthy enough to handle names and addresses.
Part of why I added the link I did is that the tumblr poster is very energized and determined and calm, which I figure we could all use an extra dose of
curieosity。
: i know the page you linked. i was talking about 5calls.org, a site that helps with calling reps/senators for issues at the federal level, it was linked earlier in the plurk.
I can't do much in terms of US pols since I am in Canada but I am happy to help the effort with links and whatever info I can provide to help with calls to the goverment
It's appreciated. Sending big "thank you" waves to the Canadian leaders who are playing hard ball here. God willing we can fix this mess and restore our relations with allies because what the fuckety fuck lol.
to clarify from my friend in the National Parks, Elons goons were not "given access" as if handed to them, they just forced their way into certain data systems after being told "no you can't have money or our shit" by the Treasury.
Just got done with a phonebanking session via the Working Families Party. really great turnout, afaik about 500+ people were patched over to their rep's office, with many more promising to follow up either on their own or through email/text
re: contacting reps/senators, i am going to be sending postcards to mine this week, specifically about checking elon musk's power. voicemails and email inboxes are filling up, so the next step imo is physical mail and postcards require less screening than envelopes so they should arrive faster
...I'd really like to know more about what the actual impact of being held in contempt is, since it kinda feels like a not-very-serious threat to someone like Musk, but...
I believe if the judge is pissed off enough, they can issue warrants for arrest and/or send US Marshals to arrest. (US Marshals are employed by the Judicial branch, not Executive branch, so they're not under the authority of the President or OPM, they're under the authority of the courts.)
Just saw a Tweet from Lisa Murkowski saying that the U.S. Senate phone system has been receiving 1,600 calls a minute, as opposed to the 40 calls per minute that they usually receive
I felt inspired to call my state's AG (afaik he's already been pushing back, but I wanted to add my voice anyway) and the message before putting you through to someone was all about how the office has been getting a huge volume of calls and where you can go to see what they've been doing I didn't freeze up when I got a live staffer instead of voicemail 🎉
Hey Vance, "doesn't get to serve on DOGE" =/= "life is ruined". He can have some consequences for being a POS. He can go do other things, like work for the Heritage Foundation, or go do some other job for Thiel. He doesn't have to do THIS SPECIFIC JOB, idiot.
