[family health, wtf] so for literal decades, we thought mom's nerve pain and numbness was due to a problem with her bone spur in her spine pressing on her spinal cord. turns out that there's actually no problem there, no narrowing. nope. she's got diabetes. which has been going on for decades. undiagnosed.
Zappy_snapps
so, that's fucked up
Hamlet 3.3.87
oh my fucking hell
Hamlet 3.3.87
at least that's treatable?
Zappy_snapps
sure, though she's been told she was at and has not made the dietary and other changes needed. she basically lives off of cheese, deli meats, and cola
Zappy_snapps
I just, she spent so many years telling us she might die because of the spine, and wearing one of those collars, and saying at some point she'd have to get surgery to fix it but the surgery had a high risk of death...
Zappy_snapps
and that if she tripped and fell or hit a bump in the road she could die
Zappy_snapps
and to find out they just now did a second imaging and it's fine, but she's got diabetes?

I have feelings
Zappy_snapps
and now I'm like, what if my excessive thirst and peeing and resulting lack of sweat that was fixed by using electrolytes is actually diabetes??????? not, I don't know, something about my body sucking at regulating salt for some reason????
Hamlet 3.3.87
i mean. Either is possible, tbh. good news is that diabetes is a simple blood test to diagnose, at least
hypemachine.
shrieks. yeah there is that at least
