Tonight I realized one thing I like about Plurk. Facebook is full of friends, relatives, neighbors, former colleagues, etc. My personal Plurk feed is not.
Tamsie
I've met wotitdo in person, and I trust her, and I think she's the only one I've met in person. I was close to Rantz for many years, but we didn't meet in person and, sadly, he's died of cancer.
Tamsie
So, I can express my cranky opinions and no one will take it personally!
Tamsie
With that in mind, 2 things that bug me related to phone calls.
Tamsie
First, when people answer so that they can tell you that they can't talk. Okay, that's fine, just don't answer.
Tamsie
Second, when someone doesn't answer, which is fine, but then later they call back and think I'm interested in whatever chore or whatever kept them from answering earlier.
Tamsie
And none of you are, let's say, a close relative, so even if you roll your eyes at how petty this is, you won't think I'm talking about you.
SteveBob
That sounds reasonable to me. I also use Facebook for keeping up with real-life friends. I've had a few here but they're gone.

I have met two plurkers in real life, very glad to have done so, but yes - not a family place for mr. It feels safer to be real somehow with “strangers”. (LOL)
camelama
(For me, not mr)
Tamsie
camelama : Exactly!

Yes! I feel like I can be more "real" here, despite being an avatar. lol

Agreed

I have had the pleasure to meet several Plurk friends in real life, and I just love what a neurodivergent group they are and that goes for my Plurk friends in general. Plurk is a great place to be and I’m glad you’re here with us.

I've met three Plurkers in RL. All great experiences. But it's not essential to being very good online friends. Just saying good morning and good night is sometimes enough. It's a way to reach around the world.

mimi : So very true!

I’ve met 8 Plurk friends in RL. All just delightful!!

totally agree

The only Plurk friend I only know is the one who introduced me to Plurk, and she doesn’t use Plurk anymore. :-(

Most social media has a "friends" collection. But here on Plurk it feels much more like real Friends. I think part of that comes from not running on hidden scripts and algorithms that decide which posts you see.
sjonsvenson
And you people are all nice , making the Plurk the best place to hang around.
Sandy Q
I like that my Plurk friends are from all over. I find it easier to express myself and rant or be self indulgent than on fb. I know people will just swipe past here without comment rather than judge.

my only IRL person is my stepson, but he doesn't hang out in here anymore because he's too busy. that's fine; I have other places I can catch up with him.
KelticKarma
Tamsie We met a few years ago, on the Schooner Zodiac.
Tamsie
I'd forgotten!
Tamsie
KelticKarma : Are you in Bellingham?
KelticKarma
Tamsie : No, I used to live in Oregon. I moved to London last year.
Tamsie
KelticKarma : I asked because the ship leaves from there. I'm visiting in 2 weeks!
