for the sake of settling a question

is a vampire on a blood diet technically a vegetarian?
Water Friend
In what sense of technically?
(^・ェ・^))ノ彡☆
No, because they are consuming an animal product that will cost its life.
(^・ェ・^))ノ彡☆
It may not be literally MEAT, but if you take it from an animal in enough quantity, it will die.
Skele-Gem
(^・ェ・^))ノ彡☆ : isn't that technically veganism?
(^・ェ・^))ノ彡☆
Veganism is never eating any product produced by an animal or involving an animal. So like, honey.
(^・ェ・^))ノ彡☆
Vegetarianism is in the spirit of not eating meat - but I think if you drained an animal of blood and drank it and went "look I didn't eat its MEAT", everyone would be like you're full of shit.
Skele-Gem
(^・ェ・^))ノ彡☆ : fair enough. thanks for the answer!
(^・ェ・^))ノ彡☆
XD That's my opinion - someone might come up with other thoughts on it!
Water Friend
Yeah, vegetarianism usually is not consuming any part of an animal, but animal products that don't harm it are okay, like milk or eggs
Thick Malört
Honey's a weird contention in the vegan community because more bees are better for the environment and they're not being exploited, but also it's an animal byproduct
Thick Malört
And some people end up yelling that the bees are being exploited anyway, which is kinda silly
(^・ェ・^))ノ彡☆
The bees on our farm get a super safe hive system, made sure they have plenty of warmth and food for the winter, and all we do is drain some of the honey.
Water Friend
And bees are 100% free to leave at any time if the hive decides it doesn't like the bargain
(^・ェ・^))ノ彡☆
Bingo.
coffee gremlin☕
I would say no, for the same reasons listed above
coffee gremlin☕
esp bc vegetarianism (and veganism) seek to reduce harm as much as possible. if you're drinking something's blood, whether you're drinking enough to kill it or not, you're still harming it. and most vampires (at least that i'm aware of) end up killing whatever they are drinking the blood of

thanks for the answers yall.

we've determined that Slayer and ABA guilty gear are in fact, NOT vegetarians

if their donors are volunteers and aren't killed or turned by being fed from, I could see the argument
👁eyes4days👁‍🗨
same way honey is vegan to many vegans bc the bees literally volunteer to be there. bees can leave.
Water Friend
Hm, that's a good point
Water Friend
Yeah, I could see consensual and mutually beneficial vampirism being acceptable in that framework
Water Friend
or from a vegetarian perspective being more comparable to milking a cow
Skele-Gem
👁eyes4days👁‍🗨 : in Slayer's case, he drinks from his wife who is technically an immortal and regenerates anyway

in ABA's case, she drinks (or rather feeds her Key husband) blood packets, but otherwise stabs opponents to power him up. This seems to have changed in Strive though
Skele-Gem
she still stabs, but dun think its still about blood
👁eyes4days👁‍🗨
oh in that example I would absolutely call Slayer a vegetarian
👁eyes4days👁‍🗨
blood packets depend on how and for what purpose they're obtained. like if they're stolen lifesaving blood bank blood, not vegetarian
👁eyes4days👁‍🗨
bc you're doing harm by stealing those resources
Skele-Gem
yea, it's never really established where she gets the blood packs.
Skele-Gem
I'll say ABA's probably too iffy to confidently call her one
👁eyes4days👁‍🗨
half-genuine half-joking:
is Rayne from Bloodrayne a vegetarian because she only feeds on nazis?
